Health Authorities Claim We Have NO Excess Deaths in New Zealand!
Is this True?
1. Introduction
Our health authorities and government have mislead us in the past. For instance, they misled us over the efficacy and safety status of the Covid 19 ‘vaccine’. What they knew about the ‘vaccine’ and what they told us were two very different stories! As Rodney Hide says in this short video (in reference to this article by distinguished lawyer Philip Crump (a.k.a. Thomas Cranmer), their lies made him feel sick to the core.
Are we being misled again? Is their claim that we have NO excess deaths in NZ during the Covid Years legitimate?
2. Professor John Gibson, Professor of Economics at Waikato University on Excess Deaths
Professor Gibson uncovered a major flaw in the health authorities' assertion. He has produced a working paper on excess deaths in NZ titled, Cumulative Excess Deaths in New Zealand in the COVID-19 Era: Biases from Ignoring Changes in Population Growth Rates. (April 2023)
Prof. Gibson showed by simply adjusting for population changes correctly, NZ does have an accumulative excess death rate of about 4% above expected deaths.
He also noted:
For the three-year period, New Zealand’s deaths were about 3.5% higher than expected (effectively spreading the 10.4% rise in deaths in 2022 over three years, given that 2020 and 2021 did not have excess deaths).
In other words, 2022 had an excess death rate of 10.4%.
Prof. John Gibson points out there is no set consensus on how excess deaths should be worked out.
It seems public health authorities have latched onto a formula for estimating excess deaths without making adjustments for anomalies relevant to NZ.

The excess death computation would be even higher if the years 2017 to 2019 had not been used in the expected death extrapolations. 2017, 2018, and 2019 were not stable years as they had significant excess deaths perhaps due to flu. 2017 was an extremely bad flu year. See here. There were 2000 more deaths than the previous year.
3. Professor John Gibson on Booster Shots & Excess Deaths
Prof. John Gibson has previously warned about NZ's growing excess death rate. Back in June 2022, he published a working paper titled, The Rollout of COVID-19 Booster Vaccines is Associated With Rising Excess Mortality in New Zealand.

Professor John Gibson demonstrated the tight correlation between booster shots and excess deaths. “The age groups most likely to use boosters had 7-10 percentage point rises in excess mortality rates as boosters were rolled out while the age group that is mostly too young for boosters saw no rise in excess mortality.” It's frightening that our government and Health Department ignored this data as well.

Four quotes from his article about his working paper that support his findings:
... It helps to recall that Pfizer documents eventually released by the FDA show that four months after the second dose, the vaccinated group in the Phase 2/3 trial had suffered 25% more all-cause deaths than the number of deaths occurring in the placebo group. Thus, more deaths due to greater use of the vaccines is consistent with results from the clinical trials.
Moreover, there are now several studies which show that vaccine rollout – particularly of the booster doses – is associated with rising excess deaths. Examples where this pattern has been observed include Israel, Germany, and the Netherlands.
It is clear that there is a close temporal relationship between increased excess deaths and the rollout of the booster doses. From late November 2021 until the end of March 2022 roughly 2.5 million booster doses were administered and cumulative excess deaths went from zero to just over 400 over the same period. Note that because boosters were generally not available to younger people, the excess deaths shown are for ages 30 and above.
Prof. Gibson concludes his article as follows:
“To recap, the last eight months have seen 3000 more deaths than expected – an unfolding disaster. Over 1000 of these excess deaths are unrelated to COVID-19 as either an underlying cause or contributory factor. Health authorities and politicians should face more scrutiny over the causes of these unexplained excess deaths...”
His article includes the following chart that shows excess deaths per week in New Zealand, going back to the start of April 2020.
His comments on the chart:
"From late April 2020 until late October 2020 there was a continuous run of fewer deaths than expected. This spanned a national lockdown and a later Auckland lockdown being imposed and relaxed. Cumulatively, 1900 fewer deaths than expected occurred (a mortality deficit of about 9%) in the first seven months of the COVID response. The next year saw a slight rebound, so by November 2021 cumulative excess deaths were roughly -1800 (that is, over 20 months there had been a total of about 1800 fewer deaths than expected). Notably this period covered another lockdown, the “delta lockdown” starting on August 17, 2021.
This all began to change from November 2021. Since then, New Zealand went from -1800 cumulative excess deaths to +1150 by the end of July 2022. In other words, in the last eight months there have been almost 3000 excess deaths (which is 13% above what was expected). The surge in excess deaths in 2022 far outweighs the mortality deficit from 2020"

He adds, in case anyone doubts the chart, the same pattern is seen at Our World in Data. (Note: As the chart at Our World in Data is periodically updated, at the time of writing this article, the chart included estimates up to the end of November, 2023.
Unfortunately the pattern of excess deaths has continued.
3. Grassroots Movement: Excess Death Stats
Excess Death Stats is the beginning of a global awareness campaign. So far they have covered Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, and Sweden. Here is the NZ page.
Stats NZ reported a 10% increase in deaths for 2022 compared to 2021.
From the NZ page:
Retired engineer, Terry Anderson, who is a volunteer for this project, has signed an affidavit as an expert witness for a NZ court case, in which he examined this issue of cumulative excess deaths over the pandemic.
Terry shows how the method used to predict ‘normal’ levels of deaths affects the calculation of excess deaths in the pandemic.
He believes that the Ministry of Health cherry-picked the approach used.
Furthermore, he says they selected a method that was fundamentally flawed, because it overestimated the number of expected deaths for a variety of reasons, including assuming immigration would continue as normal (despite borders being closed!)
“They have selected a method that gives a flattering result for cumulative excess mortality in New Zealand”, Terry says. When the Ministry of Health compared the actual numbers of deaths over the pandemic with their inflated expectation of normal deaths, it made their pandemic management look good.
And
To account for changes in population size, we’ve used the Stats NZ figures for death rates (deaths per thousand population) rather than the simple number of deaths.
Using this approach, the death rate in 2022 is 10.6% higher than the average death rate over the five years immediately preceding the pandemic (2015-2019).

5. Is the Tide Turning?
Florida Surgeon General, Joseph Ladapo, M.D., Ph.D., calls for halt in use of COVID mRNA Vaccines due to safety concerns. See here. Hopefully, this will encourage NZ and other places to follow suit.
On the 16th of January, the UK Parliament is scheduled to have a debate lead by MP Andrew Bridgen on excess deaths. Hopefully, we will be able to watch recordings on Dr John Campbell’s channels here or here.
6. Summary and Conclusions
Unfortunately, unless flawed methods are used, the data shows that NZ does have significant excess deaths like other highly vaccinated countries.
It should be obvious to any thinking person that if you have record numbers of people dying, you most likely have record excess deaths unless you have a dramatic increase in population growth and that did not happen in NZ due to a considerable decrease in immigration because of Covid 19 policies.
Why did our health authorities not conclude: Our estimates cannot be right, we must be doing something wrong? Do we need better ‘experts’?
The fact that other highly vaccinated countries have record excess deaths is another reason to look more closely at their conclusions. And that is another reason that health outcomes for the vaccinated and the unvaccinated MUST be compared. We MUST know if the vaccinated are dying in greater numbers than the unvaxxed per 100,000. If this is happening, we need to act now to identify symptoms and save lives. Burying this information is harmful.

There is also a close temporal relationship associated with vaccine roll outs and reported deaths. See the graphs above and see here. Why are our authorities still promoting the vaccine as 'safe' and 'effective'?
Why are NZ Health Officials still promoting it? What happened to First Do No Harm?
It is reckless to continue with the Covid jabs. Most people are not at risk from Covid. There are safe and effective treatments for those that are.
